2011 SPELLBOUND PETITE SIRAH, CALIFORNIA
Vineyard & Harvest Notes
Petite Sirah is a dark and brooding grape varietal. The texture and tannins come directly from the skins and as a result — the Lodi and Central regions of California were chosen as a grape source for the 2011 Spellbound Petite Sirah. The rich soils in this area allow the vines to produce slightly larger berries — and the larger berries produce a high juicetoskin ratio. This is very important because the tannin profile is reduced while the dark, luscious, and juicy fruit remains the signature of our top selling wine.
Tasting Notes
Intensity of color, rich black and brambly fruits, vanilla bean and roasting coffee aromatics are complimented by remarkable approachability in the 2011 Spellbound Petite Sirah. The wine is crafted to unleash dark and luscious characteristics, while managing tannins to deliver an opulent and juicy Petite Sirah. This lush yet easydrinking wine provides intense berry character, with superb texture you will find in none other than Spellbound Petite Sirah.
Winemaker Notes
"To soften the tannins and enhance the brooding fruit character we targeted a slightly shorter than average fermentation and skin contact time. We have found that the shorter fermentation time with Petite Sirah allowed us to capture all of the fruit character and reduce the tannins. After fermentation we moved the Petite Sirah into small French and American oak barrels to develop the wonderful flavors of rich caramel, vanilla bean, and roasting coffee aromatics. Everything about making Petite Sirah rocks; vibrant color, unbridled berry character and plenty of texture creating the perfect balance and one of the most exciting wines that will leave you Spellbound."
